SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA (Aug. 12, 2010) – Over 400 community members, volunteers, and staffers turned out to celebrate Sebastian River Medical Center’s Second Hospital Expansion Preview.

“We’re very proud to offer this expansion to you, our community members,” said Chief Operating Officer Ron Gicca during welcoming remarks to the crowd. “We originally had a January 11th completion date, but we should be seeing patients here in October,” he said.
The $25 million expansion, which began in July of 2009, features a three-story tower that will include 37 beds and 16-bed Intensive Care Unit.
The first floor will house a 16-bed intensive care unit while the second and third floors will feature a total of 42 additional private patient suites. The new building will connect to the existing facility so patients, visitors, and medical staff will be able to easily move between departments. Local contractors and M.J. Harris of Alabama built the new tower.
“With the growth of the Sebastian community, we felt our local residents deserved a new, beautiful healing center,” said Gicca.

“We are excited to do this for our local community, and are very pleased to be way ahead of schedule.”
The event featured summer Latin dancers, exhibits about Sebastian River Medical Center’s Weight Management Program, Sleep Disorders Center, Thoracic Oncology Program and Stroke Center.
“Working here for over 30 years, it’s intriguing to see this facility flourish into a beautiful medical center,” said Daisy Knowles, Sebastian River Medical Center Marketing Director.
Presently, Sebastian River Medical Center is licensed for 129 beds and will increase to 166 beds when the expansion project is completed.
“This expansion has been a multi-phased project that began last year with the opening of 14 deluxe private patient suites,” said Emily Holliman, Sebastian River Medical Center CEO.
“Phase 2 was the addition of 350 new parking spaces, and Phase 3 consists of the new 3-story 55,000 square foot patient tower that will house the 16- bed intensive care unit and 42 private patient suites on the second and third floor,” said Ms. Holliman.
