HEALTHCARE ENTREPRENEUR: “My goal was to harness the power of today’s technology to improve the training offered to surgeons,” said Dr. Ralph Zipper. “The result is one of the most technologically advanced urogynecology centers in the country.”
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – At more than 18,000 square feet, Zipper Urogynecology Associates’ soon to be opened facility will become the largest free-standing urogynecology center in the United States.
The center, located on US 1 in Melbourne, Florida in a formerly dilapidated building, was completely renovated by Dr. Ralph Zipper.
A national leader in the field of urogynecology and vaginal surgery, Dr. Zipper treats women with pelvic floor dysfunction, overactive bladder and urinary incontinence. With the larger facility he has added vaginal and labial rejuvenation procedures to his practice.
Dr. Zipper spent the last three years developing the world’s first incisionless laser vaginal rejuvenation procedure. At the new facility he will perform this procedure as well as train surgeons from around the world in his technique.
“My goal was to harness the power of today’s technology to improve the training offered to surgeons. The result is one of the most technologically advanced urogynecology centers in the country,” said Dr. Zipper.
Relaxed Environment
The operating room and procedure rooms are linked with high-definition video to the Internet for remote teaching. Each exam room boasts an iMac computer and a 40-inch plasma screen for patients to watch Zipper Urogynecology procedures or other educational program material.
The building renovation included architect Dave Nagrodsky of DNA Architects, interior designer Lottie Banner, landscaper Kevin Troy and Dan Sorgenfrei.
The lobby area is designed around a concept Dr. Zipper calls “inside out.” Patients will find a courtyard based on Mallory Square in downtown Key West. The walls appear to be colorful home exteriors. Hallways are labeled with street signs and outdoor lighting.
“Our patients come to see us to discuss things that may be considered uncomfortable,” said Dr Zipper. “With the architecture and interior design we’ve created a relaxed environment for patients.”
