BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cancer Care Centers of Brevard pulled out the stops to welcome Dr. Diely Pichardo – their ninth physician to their staff, during an open house this week. As valets parked cars and guests enjoyed an array of imaginative hors d’oeuvres, Dr. Pichardo mingled with the crowd.
The newest member of the Cancer Care Centers team, Dr. Pichardo is a Board Certified physician in Hematology/Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra Medical School in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at the Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Pichardo completed her Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Northwestern University Medical Center where she also obtained her Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation Degree. She speaks Spanish natively, and is fluent in English.
Total Range of Patient Services
Cancer Care Centers founder Dr. Silas Charles, himself a cancer survivor, wants to provide a total range of patient services under one roof. With the addition of Dr. Pichardo, this goal has become reality.
“We are creating a comprehensive care program so we can give complete care,” said Dr. Charles. “We can take a patient from workup to treatment and recovery.”
The Cancer Care Center of Brevard is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility specializing in the care of cancer patients and their families, and provides High Dose Rate Brachytherapy, IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy), IMRT (Image-guided Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy), External Beam Therapy (EBT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT), Computed Tomography (CT scan), and the new Precision Robotic Radiosurgery System – CyberKnife®.
“We’re getting ready to go a step beyond in treating patients,” said Dr. Pichardo. “We want to treat the complete person, not only offering all of the oncology services but also taking of the whole human being.”
The Cancer Care Centers of Brevard is the first facility supporting Brevard and Indian River Counties to offer CyberKnife® to its patients as an alternative cancer treatment. CyberKnife® enables the Cancer Care Centers of Brevard to fulfill its mission to provide the highest standards of care to cancer patients and support for their families.
