PHYSICIAN SPOTLIGHT

IN CELEBRATION OF National Doctors Day, Wuesthoff Health System chose Dwayne Badgett, MD, and Jayanthi E. Wheeler, MD, as the 2009 'Physicians of the Year' for Wuesthoff Rockledge and Wuesthoff Melbourne Medical Centers.

Dr. Badgett, a vascular surgeon named 'Physician of the Year' for Wuesthoff Rockledge, is the medical director of the stroke center and described as a "phenomenal surgeon who provides the best of patient care, while treating both staff and patients with the utmost respect."

A graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Badgett came to Wuesthoff from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine, and employed as an assistant professor of clinical surgery.  Badgett holds board certifications in both general and vascular surgery, and is a member of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Wheeler, 'Physician of the Year' for Wuesthoff Melbourne, is a graduate of Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, where she graduated with a bachelor of medicine and surgery degree.  Wheeler completed her internship at Newton Wellesley Hospital/Tufts University School of Medicine in Newton, MA, before completing her residency at Hospital of Saint Raphael/Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT.

Dr. Wheeler is described as "a compassionate, friendly, understanding physician that everyone can always count on."

CARDIOLOGIST Dr. Gene Killeavy, and family practice physician, Dr. Mahmoud Mostafavi  were the Wuesthoff Health System Physicians of the Year in 2008.

Dr. Killeavy, a cardiologist with Brevard Cardiology was chosen for the award to represent Wuesthoff Medical Center Rockledge, and Dr. Mahmoud Mostafavi, a family practice physician with Viera Family Practice for Wuesthoff Medical Center Melbourne.

Award finalists in 2008 were Dr. Dwayne Badgett and Dr. Hany Girgis at Wuesthoff Rockledge, Dr. Esther Clayton, Dr. Irfan Imami, Dr. John Olinde, and Dr. Lauren Romeo for Wuesthoff Medical Center Melbourne.

Wuesthoff physicians were nominated by Wuesthoff associates; finalists were then chosen from each medical center based upon patient surveys and performance on Joint Commission (JCAHO) standards.
