Event Honors Former Board Member, the Late Dr. John Donohue
Organizers of the 7th Annual Caring Hearts Benefit, sponsored by the Cancer Care Foundation, raised $192,000.00 to assist uninsured and underinsured cancer patients in Brevard and Indian River counties with rent/mortgage, utilities, pain medication and transportation. The event was in honor of the Memory of John Donohue, M.D., Board Member who passed away this past year.
Income Development Chair, Leigh Pettigrew, didn’t let the negative talk about the economy deter her, or her committee members, from their goal to ease the pain, and relieve the financial stress, associated with a cancer diagnosis. The event was held at the stunning Indialantic home of Ed and Jeanne André and included a live auction by Leigh Pettigrew. Exquisite wines were donated by Harry and Wendy Brandon, Bert Schmidt, Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Greenspoon, Tom Gachet and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Unger.
Original art was donated by local artists Peter Bailey, Tom and Vickie Busby, Peggy Husosky, Lori Pitten Jenkins, Sandy Johnson, Viola Pace Knudson, Patrick Madden, K. Holmes Moody, Linda Neal, Erika Morrison, Cindi Podgorski, Marsha Hamby Savage, Denette Schweikert and Jerry Thomas.
The all volunteer Cancer Care Foundation Board includes Evelyn Foster, Debbie Keller, Dave Wilfong, Patrick Anderson, Jeanne André, Mary Baldwin, Darcia Jones Francey, Karen Kirkland, Bill Orndorf, Karen Petry, Rita Soni and Mick Welch, Karen Osiniak, Christine Lighthill, Keith Howard, Gary Wynberg, Marcia Luhn, Dawn Herring, Heidi Joyce, Vickie Floyd and Marta Fiol.
There were over 70 sponsors, including Health First, BankFirst, BBN, Hoyman Dobson, Roger Bassin, Robert Seelman, Raj Rawal, Silas Charles, Victoria Vitale-Lewis and Alan King, Harris and Debbie Cherin, Tom Foster and Michael Sorbello, Rosemary Donohue, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Foster, Myra Haley, Marcia Luhn, and Ron and Nell Talcott. Florida Air Academy and Melbourne Central Catholic students put in many community hours to make the event a success..
